The real Treasures

The layered title of the new exhibition - Treasures of volunteers - in historical museum Het Sterkenhuis arouses curiosity. The museum of course has treasures - these being the volunteers who ensure that the museum is operated. For this exhibition, the volunteers have been asked which of the museum's treasures they envisage and what makes them tick. Both are thus put in the spotlight.

Choice of the Collection

For the seasonal exhibition, twenty volunteers make a choice from the collection of Het Sterkenhuis. What is their personal favourite object and why? This choice will be supplemented with special stories from the collection of The Sterkenhuis. It is the first step towards telling the story of Bergen. In the coming years, that Bergen story will be further developed into an inspiring presentation in the oldest and monumental building in the centre of Bergen (1655). This will include centuries-old archaeological treasures, such as an urn, the development of tourism in Bergen and Bergen aan Zee, and the steam tram Bello, which for fifty years transported seaside visitors from Alkmaar to the beach and back. Or the swimwear worn then: long legs and swimming costumes for men. Or the beautiful dresses from those days, which are also part of the impressive textile collection of Het Sterkenhuis.
